I am a theater artist dedicated to creating opportunities for emerging artists by developing original work. Theater is a way to start conversations that challenge ideas and explore the complexity of being human. I focus on pieces that use augmented conventions like magical realism and science fiction, to explore these themes.

My process is collaborative, actor centered, and playful. I view myself as a guide, setting up the circumstances under which the ensemble can successfully lead with their instincts. I pride myself on strong communication, and the ability to adjust my approach to fit my collaborators’ work style. My artists frequently let me know how much agency they experienced working on productions together.

Recently, I have been fortunate to work in residence with Estrogenius Festival and HARP Theatricals, and have directed new plays at The Tank, RE/VENUE NYC @ The Bechdel Project (artistic dir Meghan Finn) and The Rat. I have also directed several readings which have been featured at AMT Theater, The Rat, & Dramatist Guild Foundation.

Coming Up: Staged Readings of “I Keep Leaving Parties Early” by Amelia Kennedy at The Concord Theatricals Off Off Broadway Festival & “Boys Will Be Dogs” by Al Groppi at The Rat NYC produced by HARP Theatricals.

Testimonials

“Heather is incredibly organized- a mix of thorough preparation and clear, thoughtful vision along with room for actors to explore and have ownership over their choices.”

“Concise. Professional. A perfect balance of amicable and direct.”

“It was easy to come into the space and work because I trusted that not only would you be confident in how you wanted the piece to look and how rehearsals should run, but you were also confident that each actor would bring what was needed to the piece. It was easier to trust myself because you trusted me.”

“Love Heather's playful yet determined directing style. We got each day's work done quickly, and had fun every second of it. She allowed us to experiment with the text and guided us to make it our own.”

“Your confidence, directness, kindness, and clear vision for the work; a good blend of having a vision and collaborating with the actors to find their connection to the material”

“Not only are you hilarious, but you run a tight ship! Time is always utilized with you and there isn't a plot in the story that isn't connected/acknowledged!”
